A diverse group of investors is backing the growth and expansion of Chimani, with a total of $745,000 in new funding provided by the Maine Venture Fund, the Maine Technology Institute, Maine Angels, and several individual investors. “The funds will allow the company to increase its core team, expand its sales and marketing efforts, increase the number of national park apps we publish, and add new tools that will make the apps more useful and versatile for users,” says Kerry Gallivan, Chimani’s CEO & co-founder.
The latest round of Series A venture capital funding, which closed on Sept. 30, was accompanied by the news that Second & Fourth investor Steve King — Facebook’s former director of media sales and one of the social-media company’s first employees — and Preston Junger, director of sales and head of brand solutions at Yelp!, have joined Chimani’s Board of Directors. “We’re thrilled to have Steve and Preston, who have provided great insight to Chimani based on their experience helping startups rapidly scale up their business, join the board,” says Gallivan.
King says his background in natural resource studies and resource economics, his enthusiasm for technology-based startup companies, and his belief in attracting a new generation of National Park enthusiasts make him an ardent Chimani supporter. “The Chimani team has shown me repeatedly that they have what it takes to get it done,” he says.
