While summer is without a doubt the most popular time for visitors to explore the national parks, it’s often autumn that attracts some of the more park savvy crowds. The parks are winding down for the season, crowds have diminished and for some very special parks, the fall foliage breathes one last burst of energy into the scene before winter.
For those looking to make the most out of the last few weeks of the park season, here are 6 ways you can celebrate fall in the national parks:
Halloween Tales & Lantern Walk at Minute Man National Historical Park – Join Friends of Minute Man National Park for Halloween Tales and Lantern Walk, a child friendly event featuring spooky tales performed by the Guild of Historic Interpreters Saturday, October 19 starting at 5:30 p.m. with a lantern walk for little ones along the Battle Road. View the Fall Foliage! – One of the best parts of fall is taking in the beautiful colors of the changing leaves. Your neighborhood may be a good spot for this, but for the best fall foliage views, head to Acadia, Cuyahoga Valley, Crater Lake, Great Smoky Mountains, or Shenandoah National Park.- Death Valley Fall Star Party – Join the stargazing fun this weekend! Both the Las Vegas and Ventura County Astronomical Societies will be partnering to provide over 30 telescopes for viewing the magnificent stars in Death Valley National Park – a Gold Tier designated International Dark Sky Park. The event will take place on October 25-26 at the driving range of our 18 hole golf course. Take Pride in Acadia Day – November 2 – Each fall, hundreds of enthusiastic volunteers descend upon Acadia’s historic carriage roads to rake leaves and clear drainage ditches from up to ten miles of carriage roads in preparation for winter.
